How to accept an invitation to become a trustee for a beneficiary.
GuideTrust networkFamilyTrustee
A beneficiary who wants you to act for them sends you an invitation. The invitation names you as a delegate on a delegation record. Accepting the invitation makes you a trustee. You are not required to accept. You decide.
Purpose
This guide helps you accept a trustee invitation. After following it, you will be a trustee for the beneficiary.
Who this is for
This guide is for a person who received an invitation to become a trustee.
What you need
- The invitation email from Community OS.
- Your own Community OS identity. Read the guide to create your identity first if you do not have one.
- The beneficiary who sent the invitation, and their trust in you.
- A clear understanding of the scope and dates in the invitation.
What you will do
- Open the invitation.
- Review the details.
- Accept.
Instructions
- Open the invitation email from Community OS.
- Select the link in the email.
- Sign in with your identity. Read the sign-in guide if you need the steps.
- Review who sent the invitation. It must be a beneficiary you know and trust.
- Review the scope. The scope names the records you may work with, such as the support plan.
- Review the start date.
- Review the end date, if the invitation has one.
- Select Accept.
If the details are incorrect, do not accept. Ask the beneficiary to change them and send a new invitation.
What happens next
- Your delegation record is active. Status: Active.
- You can act on the records in your scope from the start date.
- You can act only after the beneficiary also grants you consent. A delegation alone does not give access. Consent is never implied by a delegation.
- The beneficiary can end your role at any time, and so can you.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: the invitation link does not work. Fix: request a new invitation from the beneficiary. Invitation links expire.
- Problem: you cannot accept because you have no identity. Fix: create your identity, share your DID with the beneficiary, and ask for a new invitation.
- Problem: the invitation is from a person you do not know. Fix: do not accept. Contact your administrator if you are worried.
- Problem: the scope or dates look wrong. Fix: do not accept. Ask the beneficiary to correct them and send a new invitation.
