What is the volunteer hub?
The volunteer hub is the place where people who want to volunteer are matched with roles that need their help.
What is it?
The volunteer hub connects people who want to volunteer with opportunities that need help. It keeps three kinds of records:
- A volunteer profile, which holds a person's availability, whether they have transport, and their region.
- A volunteer opportunity, which describes a role, the skills it needs, the date, and the location.
- A volunteer match, which links a person to an opportunity with a match score from 0 to 100.
The match score shows how well a volunteer fits a role. A high score means the person's skills and availability match well.
When do you use it?
You use the volunteer hub whenever someone wants to volunteer or a role needs filling. You use it to:
- Record who is available to help and when.
- Publish roles that need volunteers.
- Find the best person for a role quickly.
- Keep a history of who volunteered for what.
Example
The community garden needs someone to run a Saturday morning workshop. James, a support worker, publishes an opportunity in the volunteer hub. He lists the skills needed and the date. The hub shows matches ranked by score. Hana's profile scores high because she is free on Saturdays and lists gardening as a skill. James contacts Hana and confirms the match.
