What is an event?
An event is a scheduled gathering that Community OS publishes so people can see it, register, and check in on the day.
What is it?
An event is a scheduled gathering for the community. It can be in person or online. Each event has a title, a description, a date and time, and a location or online link.
Community OS records events as public event listings. When an event is published, it appears on the events page where people can read about it and register. The event record also collects registrations, waitlist entries, and check-ins.
When do you use it?
You use events whenever the community comes together. Examples include workshops, meetings, community days, and online sessions. You use an event when you want to:
- Tell the community about something happening on a specific date.
- Let people register in advance.
- Manage a waiting list when the event is full.
- Track who actually attended.
Example
Wiremu is a community member who uses a screen reader. A support group he belongs to publishes a monthly workshop. Wiremu opens the events page, reads the description, and registers. On the day, he checks in at the door. The event record shows his registration and his check-in, and the group can see how many people attended.
