Purpose
An advocacy case supports a person who needs help with an issue, such as a complaint or a decision that affects them. This guide shows you how to open a case, keep it up to date, and record how it was resolved.
Who this is for
This guide is for support workers and coordinators who advocate for community members.
What you need
- The person's consent to advocate on their behalf.
- A clear statement of the issue.
- The date the issue started.
- Access to the advocacy cases list.
What you will do
- Open the advocacy case.
- Describe the issue.
- Set the status.
- Record the actions you take.
- Record the outcome when the case closes.
Instructions
- Open the Advocacy menu from the main navigation.
- Select New case.
- Select the person in the Person field.
- Write the issue in the Issue field.
- Set the Opened date to today.
- Select the related organization if the case involves one.

To record actions:

- Update the Status to closed.
- Select Save.
What happens next
The case keeps a full history from opening to outcome. You can see the issue, the actions taken, and the result. The case stays linked to the person's record, so their story is available if they need support again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The case is taking longer than expected | Update the status and add notes so the history shows the delays. |
| The person's issue changed | Open the case, edit the Issue field, and add a note about the change. |
| You need another person's help | Add a note naming the person you contacted and what they agreed to do. |
| The case is still open but the person is satisfied | Record the outcome and close the case. |
