Publish a community story

Collect a member's story, add media with consent and description, and publish it for the community to read.

Purpose

Stories share the experiences of community members. This guide shows you how to record a story, add photos or audio with consent, and publish it so others can read it.

Who this is for

This guide is for administrators, coordinators, and support workers who collect and publish community stories.

What you need

  • The story, as told by the person.
  • The person's consent to publish.
  • Media files, such as photos or audio, if the story includes them.
  • Descriptions for any media you add.

What you will do

  1. Create the story.
  2. Write the story content.
  3. Record consent.
  4. Add media with descriptions.
  5. Publish the story.

Instructions

  1. Open the Stories menu from the main navigation.
  2. Select New story.
  3. Select the person in the Person field.
  4. Enter the story title in the Title field.
  5. Write the story in the Content field.
  6. Set Consent granted to on only after the person agrees to publish.
  7. Select Save.

To add media:

  1. Open the story record.
  2. Select Add media.
  3. Choose the media type, such as Photo, Audio, Video, or Text.
  4. Add the file in the URL field.
  5. Write a caption in the Caption field.
  6. Write a description in the Alt text field so people using screen readers understand the media.
  7. Select Save media.

To publish:

  1. Open the story record.
  2. Check that Consent granted is on.
  3. Set Published to on.
  4. Select Save.

What happens next

The story appears on the stories page for the community to read. Media has captions and descriptions so everyone can understand it. You can update the story or unpublish it if the person changes their mind.
