Create your identity

How to create your digital identity (DID) in Community OS.

Your identity in Community OS is a permanent digital address called a DID. Short for Decentralized Identifier. Think of it as your address on the trust network. You create it once, and you keep it for life. It never changes.

Purpose

This guide helps you create your Community OS identity. After following it, you will have a DID and can sign in.

Who this is for

This guide is for anyone who is new to Community OS and does not have an identity yet. A beneficiary, a trustee, a support worker, or a family member.

What you need

  • An email address that you can read.
  • Access to a web browser.
  • Your preferred name, as you want it shown.

What you will do

  1. Open the identity form.
  2. Enter your details.
  3. Confirm your email address.
  4. Receive your DID.

Instructions

  1. Open Community OS in your web browser.
  2. Select Create your identity.
  3. Enter your preferred name.
  4. Enter your email address.
  5. Select Send me a link.
  6. Open the email from Community OS.
  7. Select the link in the email.
  8. Review your name and email address.
  9. Select Create identity.

Community OS creates your DID for you. You do not need to build it or understand the technical detail. You will see your DID on screen. It starts with did: and looks like did:plc:....

  1. Write your DID down, or save it in a safe place.

You can always find your DID again by signing in.

What happens next

  • You can sign in whenever you need to. Read the sign-in guide.
  • You can share your DID with people you trust. A beneficiary needs it to name you as a trustee.
  • Your identity is yours. You use the same DID across Community OS and other services that support DIDs.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: the email did not arrive. Fix: wait a few minutes, then check your spam folder. If it is still missing, request a new link.
  • Problem: the link in the email does not work. Fix: sign-in links expire after a short time. Request a new link and use it promptly.
  • Problem: you lost your DID and did not save it. Fix: sign in to Community OS. Your identity page shows your DID.
