Review and revoke consent

How a beneficiary reviews their consent grants and revokes one to stop access.

GuideTrust networkBeneficiaryFamilyTrustee

Consent is your permission for someone or an app to access a collection of your records. You can review your consent grants at any time. You can revoke one to stop access. Revoking consent stops access immediately.

Consent is never implied. A delegation or an arrangement does not give access by itself. Only your active consent does. That is why revoking consent is the strongest way to stop someone's access.

Purpose

This guide helps a beneficiary review their consent grants and revoke one. After following it, you will know who can access your records and can stop any access you no longer want.

Who this is for

This guide is for a beneficiary who wants to check who can access their records, and for a trustee or family member helping a beneficiary manage consent.

What you need

  • Your Community OS identity. Read the guide to create your identity first if you do not have one.
  • Sign in to Community OS.

What you will do

  1. Open your consent list.
  2. Read each grant.
  3. Choose the grant to stop.
  4. Revoke it.
  5. Check the new status.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to Community OS.
  2. Open Consent.

You see a list of your consent grants. Each grant shows the person or app, the collection, the level, the dates, and the status.

  1. Read each grant. Check who has access and at what level.
  2. Choose the grant you want to stop.
  3. Select Revoke.
  4. Enter a reason if you want to record one. This step is optional.
  5. Select Confirm.

The grant is now revoked. Status: Revoked.

  1. Check the status reads Revoked for that grant.

What happens next

  • Access stops immediately. The person or app can no longer open the collection, even if a delegation or an arrangement stays active.
  • The revoked grant stays in your list as a record of what happened.
  • You can grant consent again later if you change your mind.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: you revoked a grant by mistake. Fix: grant consent again. Read the guide to grant consent for the steps.
  • Problem: someone still has access after you revoked. Fix: check you revoked the correct grant. Then check for a second grant to the same person or app.
  • Problem: you cannot find the grant in the list. Fix: the grant may have expired. Check the dates on the list, or contact your administrator.
  • Problem: a grant keeps reappearing. Fix: tell your coordinator or administrator. A grant should not reactivate on its own.
