What is feedback?

Feedback is a structured way for community members to share what works, what does not, and what could be better.

What is it?

Feedback is a record of what a community member thinks about a service, an event, or the community itself. A feedback submission can be made with a name or anonymously.

Each submission records:

  • The source, such as who gave the feedback.
  • The date.
  • The topic.
  • The category and importance.
  • Whether follow-up is required.
  • Notes describing the feedback.

When do you use it?

You use feedback when someone has something to say about their experience. You use it to:

  • Let community members raise concerns or praise.
  • Collect feedback in a structured way so you can sort it.
  • Find out what matters most by importance.
  • Track that someone follows up on a concern.

Feedback is quick and open-ended. A consultation asks a specific public question. A survey asks a set of structured questions. Feedback is the general channel for anything people want to say.

Example

Wiremu attends an event and finds the registration page hard to use with his screen reader. He submits feedback through the public form. He marks it as important and says the form has no labels. The coordinator sees the flagged item, tests the form, and fixes the labels. She marks the follow-up as handled.
